What is a 
?
Adding a SmartPrefixTM to an existing item part number makes the item’s technical specification digitally visible and accessible to a buyer’s software applications. The SmartPrefixTM identifies who issued the part number, in a standardized, digital format readable by any software system.
A SmartPrefix converts existing part numbers to International Part Numbers that are ISO 8000-115 compliant, in the same way that a country code is added to transform a local telephone number into a globally unique international telephone number. When SmartPrefix-ed items are batched together in a digitally visible, accessible and ISO 8000 standardized format, it is known as a Standardized Open Catalog.
